Lianne La Havas. Jools Holland Live Show

Last nights live Jools Holland show boasted an impressive line-up, with the likes of established artists such as Bon Iver and Feist. However the highlight of the show was Lianne La Havas’ performance of her song ‘Age’. Making her television debut, the singer, who hails from London,  showed no signs of nervousness and executed her song with a certain charm.

Prior to becoming a solo artist, La Havas worked as a backing vocalist, most notably with Paloma Faith. The singer-songwriter has, since deciding to go solo, managed to create a level of hype in quite a short period of time. Fast forward to the present and we find that she is on the cusp of releasing her EP ‘Lost and Found’, that features Willy Mason. This is no doubt going to turn some heads.

Armed with merely an electric guitar and a microphone, La Havas bared her talents to the nation in last nights show. Obvious attention will be paid to her vocal talents but it is her songwriting abilities which must not be ignored. The hooks of the song all stem from her vocals but the guitar forms the perfect accompaniment. The warm tone and her style of playing lent the song a vintage jazz feel.

It was a refreshing performance from a singer who clearly enjoys her chosen craft. From her facebook page we also see she has a great sense of humour. In the description section she predicts the critics comparisons by writing; ‘Nothing like Corinne Bailey Rae or Andreya Triana, but we all have similar hair’. I expect this singer will go far.

Look out for the release of ‘Lost and Found’. Lianne La Havas is also currently touring the UK. http://www.facebook.com/LianneLaHavas?sk=app_123966167614127
